Here it is at last!... the 400-pound press! (Top) The actual weight of this world record press by Paul Anderson was 402 pounds, which exceeds by 21 pounds the former mark of 381 set by Doug Hepburn. Anderson actually broke the record on his first attempt at the AllSouth meet April 16 in High Point, N.C., when he lifted 3852 pounds. He went on to snatch 315 (below), and clean and "jerk" 425 for the highest-ever total of 11424. While no one else has totalled 1100 pounds, Anderson is on his way toward 1200! His clean and jerk was slightly higher than Schemansky's world record, but not enough to establish a new mark. The 300-pound Anderson now squats 10 repetitions with 700 pounds in training.
